How to hike around Laguna de Cuicocha in Ecuador
Cuicocha is a 3km wide caldera and crater lake at the foot of the Cotacachi Volcano. If you’re in Otavalo in Ecuador, the hike around the crater lake is a must do, but the info out there isn’t so fresh. With a bit of luck, this post will help someone out.
How to spend 3 and a half weeks in Colombia
Colombia is one of the first countries I’ve come across where everyone has very unique itineraries. I was expecting many people to be following the well trodden Gringo trail north or south around South America, but it turns out this doesn’t really apply to Colombia.
Hiking in the Valle de Cocora from Salento
My last stop in Colombia before an epic 17 hour bus trip to the Ecuador border was Salento – the coffee region of Colombia. The area is situated high up in the mountains and the cool temperatures are perfect for growing coffee. The mountainous landscape makes it a great place to hike too.
Visiting Guatape and its famous Rock, El Penol
Medellin is one of Colombia’s largest cities and seems to be firmly placed on everyone’s itinerary. I can see the appeal of the city but personally, its true charm lies 2 hours away in the small town of Guatape.
Cartagena – a photo blog
Cartagena is the jewel in the crown of Colombia’s precious Spanish architecture. The main tourist attraction is the suburb called Centro, where you can easily spend your days wandering around, admiring some incredible buildings and their numerous flower boxes!
Camping in Tayrona National park with the global mosquito population!
Tayrona National Park is one of Colombia’s crown jewels. It’s a huge park, just outside Santa Marta, that hugs the Caribbean coast. It’s really popular for camping too. My experience here started off as being a comedy of errors though!
Trekking to Guane from San Gil, in Colombia
After leaving the capital of Colombia, I made my way north to a town called San Gil. If I’m honest with myself, I wasn’t expecting much, but boy, was I pleasantly surprised!
Bogota – my first stop in South America
29 hours of flying, and a total of 44 hours in transit later, I arrived in Bogota, Colombia. It’s so refreshing to be out of Asia and experience something so different! The plan is to spend the next 3 weeks in Colombia before continuing with the rest of South America. Challenge accepted!
