I’ve been slowly proceeding into Southern China over the last month. I spent some time in the Yunnan Province, the capital of which is Kunming. China is definitely starting to get more cultural here, and nature is starting to become a bigger attraction than skyscrapers. That being said, where the Chinese can build a cable car, they will!

How to survive a Chinese Train station
If you want to prepare for Boxing Day sales and the resultant stampedes, or if you’re a doomsday prepper wanting to equip yourselves with the necessary skills to survive an apocalypse and the associated scrummage for the last remaining food on earth – drop what you’re doing and catch a train in China!
Sichuan Province in pictures
The Sichuan Province in China is where China starts getting green and adventurey. There are a great deal of national parks around the capital, Chengdu. I spent 6 days in Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou. Here are some pictures from my trip. If you’re planning a trip to China, I’d certainly recommend the Sichuan Province – amazing food, amazing sites and amazing activities.
Xi’an in pictures
I spent a few days in Xi’an, the capital of the Shaanxi Province of China – a place best known for the Terracotta Army. There’s a lot more to the city, though and worth a stop. Here are some photos of my stay there.
Beijing in pictures
5 days in Beijing and here are some pictures of the city. Overall, a great place to visit. If you’d like to read more about what I thought of the city, click here.
Do I like Beijing?
I’ve spent the past 5 days in Beijing and find the city to be a paradox… but there’s no doubt that it is seriously impressive. I mean, it’s a city of nearly 22 million people which is a LOT but yet it pulls it off in some kind of organised chaos. The air pollution is the worst in the world (it’s seriously kak) but the city is clean! It boggles the mind. But do I like the city?
How to prepare for a date with the Chinese Embassy
Here’s my definitive South African guide on how to apply for a multiple entry visa to China. This is quite a special affair, for which you need to truly be ready for.
First off, you’re going to be getting intimate. Shave first, put some nice cologne on. Unlike most first dates, chances are you’ll be getting more than you expected with your visa appointment.
