Tayrona National Park is one of Colombia’s crown jewels. It’s a huge park, just outside Santa Marta, that hugs the Caribbean coast. It’s really popular for camping too. My experience here started off as being a comedy of errors though!

Trekking to Guane from San Gil, in Colombia
After leaving the capital of Colombia, I made my way north to a town called San Gil. If I’m honest with myself, I wasn’t expecting much, but boy, was I pleasantly surprised!
Bogota – my first stop in South America
29 hours of flying, and a total of 44 hours in transit later, I arrived in Bogota, Colombia. It’s so refreshing to be out of Asia and experience something so different! The plan is to spend the next 3 weeks in Colombia before continuing with the rest of South America. Challenge accepted!

The never-ending journey to Bohol

Kawah Ijen – such high hopes but the weather destroyed them!
The Ijen Plateau is home to a massive volcanic crater, complete with blue burning sulphur fires at night and a turquoise lake. It has all the critical ingredients to make the 1am wake up and hike worthwhile.
