The Shan Province of Myanmar is so incredibly beautiful. So beautiful that I have to think of other adjectives that don’t include the usage of the F word. I trekked from Kalaw to Inle Lake – a very scenic route through the countryside. This experience has solidified my belief that some of the nicest people in the world live in Myanmar – what a fantastic country!

Bagan – could it be the most spectacular place I’ve seen? A photo blog
The Ancient City of Bagan is easily one of the most incredible sites I’ve seen. Originally built between the 9th and 13th centuries, the historic site used to consist of 4,000 pagodas and monasteries. Today, about 2,200 remain and seeing them is just incredible. Here is a photo blog from my 4 days in this phenomenal place.
The road north in photos
After leaving Yangon, I first ventured south to a small town called Mawlamyine. After spending a few days there, I began the great trek north, through Kyaikto and Bago, eventually getting to Bagan. Here are some photos from the past week north bound.
Yangon – not just a big city
Myanmar- sho. I’ve heard the stories about it being one of the last refuges in South East Asia if you’re looking for ‘raw’ Asia. The stories were right- I think this is the most authentic South East Asian country I’ve been to so far.
Life’s a beach!
After leaving Bangkok, we made our way south to spend the next 2 weeks island hopping. I think it’s safe to say we are all 5 shades darker now and are responsible for the Nivea share price rocketing after all the sun block we consumed. Oh, we also learnt a valuable lesson: don’t play with the local rum- it always wins.
Ping Pong, Lady Boys and Chang
A bunch of my mates came to Thailand and we’ve been having a grand time for the past 3 weeks. The 6 of us descended on Bangkok – a city that will chew you up and spit you out. Of all the things I’ve learnt, the 2 things that concern me the most about my time in this city is that I’m a terrible ping pong player and I’m hopeless at identifying lady boys!
Hippies, hippies everywhere!
I’ve been in Thailand for over a week and have just boarded a bus to my next stop. Buses are a great time to do some reflecting on a place and here I am, doing just that, and I am battling to get a handle on northern Thailand.
Are Western tourists dicks?
Something has been bugging me quite heavily over the past 6 months and it has reached a fever pitch of late. Whilst I know that what I’m about to say applies to what in all likelihood is a handful of tourists, the spill over on the rest of us is big. So here goes, vilify me if you have the inclination.
Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai
It’s ridiculous how fast the past week has gone. I’m currently writing from Pai in Thailand having made my way here from Luang Prabang in Laos. Of the week that has past, one whole day has been in some form of transport. My sense of humour has been tested properly with the Laos bus system. But all is well that ends well!
